This apartment was chosen for its fabulous views of a championship golf course and the Madrid skyline. It is located in a wealthy suburb of Madrid, close to the airport. This is a second home for this international couple that wanted to create a sophisticated and stylish look. It was previously owned by a young family and was furnished accordingly. So the first task was to strip out all the built-in furniture and create a feeling of space by keeping the décor clean and simple, complimenting the beautiful wooden floors and doors and taking advantage of the bright natural light.

The furniture and fittings were mainly sourced from a combination of Spanish and English suppliers. However, the dining table was from Italy and the silk rug from China. This gave an eclectic look in keeping with its location and owners style.

Artwork was going to be the focal point of this apartment, so the furnishings are pared down to ensure they don’t fight for attention. The colour palette is on the cool side of greys and blues with a splash of red to give it a Spanish accent. Everything was designed to compliment the amazing views whilst creating a modern theme that was easy to maintain for visiting friends and family. Lighting was also a key design feature. All the natural light comes from the large lounge doors that lead out onto the balcony. Many of the other rooms have minimal natural light so the lighting design was important. A combination of task and decorative lighting was layered to create moods and zoned to distinguish areas in the open plan lounge dining room. The narrow hallway had both floor and ceiling lights to wash the walls widening this space visually. The owners were delighted with the transformation and we are now working on their UK home.
