Brits Are Loving These 10 Living Room Furniture Items

Between one-day shipping, AR-enabled mobile apps that let you visualise items in your space, one-click payments, and digital coupons, it’s no wonder that millions of shoppers prefer to purchase items online – clothes, groceries, tools, and, increasingly, furniture. In 2015 alone, UK shoppers spent £533 on e-commerce websites. While we still prefer the offline experience when it comes to expensive pieces of furniture, which certainly makes sense, we tend to shop for smaller items from the convenience of our own homes, making our overly hectic lives just a tad easier. We decided to take a look at the most popular living room furniture on to see what British homeowners are shopping for online. DIY, simplicity, and affordability unite all the items on the list. See for yourself...

1. Large Foldable Ottoman

This faux leather ottoman/bench is only £13.25. We can see why this item is so popular among homeowners. You can fold it and store under your bed or in the back of your closet. It’s perfect for storage, be it your winter clothes or kids’ toys. Finally, you can use it as a coffee table or as extra seating when you have guests over. With over 1,400 reviews, the item has earned 4.5 stars.

2. DIY Bookcase

At £16.99, this bookcase is certainly affordable. What we believe attracts home owners the most to this item, though, is flexibility. There are 6 cubes in total – 32x32x32cm each – which you can then assemble in any way/shape you want. This DIY concept is highly versatile. It can be used to separate areas in an open-space floor plan or as a storage facility in your kids’ room, a pantry, or a living room.

3. 12-Cube Wire Grid Bookcase

Here’s another DIY bookcase that’s popular among British shoppers. You will spend £29.99 on this item, which consists of 12 wire grid cubes. The industrial feel of this bookcase makes it a great fit for numerous design styles, from minimalistic to bohemian. We are big fans of furniture that allows for personalisation and this item definitely allows for much freedom and creativity. Whether you assemble it as one piece or split it into multiple bookcases, decorate it with books or plants, keep the original colour or paint it a bright accent colour, this bookcase can be turned into anything you want.

4. Corner TV Unit

This £49.59 TV cabinet appears to have a lot of fans due to its simple, yet elegant design, affordable price, and compact size. Made out of solid pine, the cabinet comes in two colours: light brown and white.

5. Upholstered Footstool

While this item’s £14.99 price certainly makes it attractive, what we appreciate the most is the fact that the covers are easily removable and washable. Described by reviewers as ‘sturdy’, it can be used as a footstool, an ottoman, or a children's stool. If you get a few of these, have fun mixing and matching patterns and colours.

6. Nest of 3 Tables

‘Simplicity’ and ‘functionality’ – these two words pretty much describe this set of tables. Made out of solid pine and selling for £30.98, the set is a big hit among British shoppers. However, reviews are mixed with many homeowners disappointed with the quality of the nest. If you are a DIY enthusiast, this set will make a brilliant starting point. If you are looking for a quality item, though, it may not be the most optimal product for you.

7. Radiator Cover

You can hide those clumsy radiators under this simple cover, which can be further customised – paint it to either perfectly match the colour of your walls or to stand out with a pop of colour. Decorate it with plants, picture frames, and books. You can purchase it on Amazon for £54.95. Here’s one of the reviews: “It looks very good in my kitchen. An excellent paint finish, beautiful white. I will buy more of the same, rather than take a chance on slightly cheaper items which may well be of lower quality.”

8. Antique Style End Table

For £12.99, it’s a bargain! Constructed from iron frames and PVC, this end table is simple, but not boring. “Very useful little tables, perfect for drinks, books, or even small laptops. They hug the couch so don't take up extra space or make the room look cluttered. Easy to assemble and seem sturdy,” reads one of the reviews.

9. Inflatable corner sofa

This waterproof inflatable sofa is perfect for your patio, summer house or a pool party. “Really great product. Got this to take in our folding camper, it's a great size and with a family of 5 we all fit on easily,” reads one of the reviews. This £91.99 product will certainly take camping to the next level. As far as a living room goes, however, we recommend to stay away from inflatable furniture. If you want something affordable, you can always go the DIY route and reupholster your old sofa, replace its legs, and swap out throw pillows.

10. Recliner Armchair

This is the most expensive item on the list - £152.00. We can see why this particular chair is so popular among shoppers – it’s a great compromise for those who love recliners, but do not like their usual bulky look and feel. We can imagine how comfy it is to curl up on this chair next to a fireplace on a cold winter night, read a book, or enjoy a good movie!
